What Is STM Typesetting?
STM typesetting covers scientific, technical, and medical content on its way to publication. It covers books, journals, and reference works where the pages carry equations, chemical structures, multi-level tables, detailed figures, and long reference lists.
It differs from general book typesetting because the content carries meaning in its structure as well as its words. A superscript sitting slightly wrong, a symbol swapped for a lookalike, or a table that loses the link between its headers and its data all change what the reader understands.
The output is a press-ready file, plus digital editions where technical notation remains readable and structurally usable rather than becoming a picture of itself. In STM publishing, even a small composition error can alter meaning, which is why our workflow checks critical content against the manuscript rather than appearance alone.
Illustrated, clinical, and chemistry-led titles are usually best set conventionally. Where mathematics is the substance of the book rather than a component of it, LaTeX typesetting is normally the better route, and we will say which we recommend before quoting.
